Additional Adoption Fee Information for Legend

GALT is charging an adoption fee of $750 for Irish retired racing greyhounds 7 years and younger and $650 for those 8 and over.

The Irish greyhounds arrive to us spayed or neutered with current rabies vaccinations. The transportation cost averages $1,620 per dog, and GALT spends another approximately $400 for CBC blood work with heartworm test, Protatek testing, dental and vaccinations required for this environment.

At this time, Ireland is the current source for retired racing greyhounds. Southland track in West Memphis, AR is ceasing racing December 31, 2022. After that time there will be only 2 tracks left in West Virginia. All of those retired racers will go to adoption groups on the east coast.

For its almost 22 years in existence, GALT has operated as a 501 (c) 3 Corporation. The Irish retired racers’ adoption fee correlates to this policy.

Legend, aka Rathduff Legend, is a black male born on September 18, 2017. He is one of GALT’s Irish hounds and is not listed in Greyhound Data. Legend is good around little dogs and we will test for cat tolerance soon.

Hi, I’m Legend! I am a super cute and goofy big boy! I love playing with toys, especially squeaky ones. One of my favorite things to do is find toys and run around the house with them. I love comfy beds and soft places to lounge and sploot. I would LOVE a forever home that allows me to get on the couch, which I’m not allowed to do at the moment.

I love my little greyhound sister, though I’m curious and learning to understand why other dogs are so small. I currently need to be supervised when playing with smaller dogs. They think I’m too big and a bit intense sometimes.

I don’t mind being in my crate, but I’d rather stay out and stick next to you. My hoomans call me a Velcro dog! I learned how to use the doggy door in only a few days, and it made my foster mom so proud! I LOVE going outside, prancing around, and looking for squirrels. Sometimes I find them and try to jump up to catch them, though so far unsuccessfully.

I do get a bit scared when my hoomans are watching a movie and there are suddenly dogs barking (and a lion roaring….) through the screen. I was sleeping and they came out of nowhere and I couldn’t find them! My hoomans assured me it was just a movie and I calmed down.

I love going on walks, and I’m a super good boy who doesn’t pull. My ideal forever home should have a backyard too because I like to go out often. It’s probably best that I don’t live with kitties, they move too much like squirrels.
