Winston

Winston is a fawn greyhound born December 9, 2022. He came to GALT NM via an owner-surrender as his German Shepard pack mates played so rough with him that he had multiple trips to the Vet for stitches and he was withdrawn. It is not yet known if Winston is cat tolerant.

Winston came to GALT NM via an owner-surrender. As much as his people loved him, they feared for Winston’s safety and contentment as his German Shepard pack mates played so rough with him that he had multiple trips to the Vet for stitches and he was withdrawn. Now in a foster home with one other sighthound, we’ve learned that Winston is a happy, affectionate, and energetic pup. He has a gorgeous red blond coat with the perfect amount of fuzziness. Winston is mixed with another sighthound breed, but clearly got the greyhound memo and spends the better part of each day napping on his back with all four feet in the air.

Winston is a very smart hound and knows the basic commands of sit and down both verbally and with hand signals. His recall in the yard is a work in progress as he is exuberant and loving the puppy life. He is currently learning which furniture he is allowed on and which he is not and follows the command “OFF” with a point to the floor (he was allowed on the furniture in his previous home). OFF is also used on the few occasions that he has felt the need to jump up on people. He jumps in good natured fun and as he is going to be a big boy it’s good that he’s put his quick learning to work for the safety of everyone.

Winston continues to do well working on house manners related to knowing where to potty and not chewing inappropriate things. He loves to run with our other hound, plays with squeaky toys and enjoys chewing appropriate toys. He crates easily and seldom complains about it. He actually put himself to bed a couple of times. He also sleeps all night! Winston did very well on his recent small dog test with a small dog that takes his job quite seriously.  Winston was interested in the small dog, but only as a playmate; if his forever home has a small dog, they will want to exercise appropriate safety measures as everyone settles in.

Are you ready to give this fuzzy wonderment his forever home because this blonde really does have more fun!
