Additional Adoption Fee Information for This Hound

GALT is charging an adoption fee of $750 for Irish retired racing greyhounds 7 years and younger and $650 for those 8 and over.

The Irish greyhounds arrive to us spayed or neutered with current rabies vaccinations. The transportation cost averages $1,620 per dog, and GALT spends another approximately $400 for CBC blood work with heartworm test, Protatek testing, dental and vaccinations required for this environment.

At this time, Ireland is the current source for retired racing greyhounds. Southland track in West Memphis, AR is ceasing racing December 31, 2022. After that time there will be only 2 tracks left in West Virginia. All of those retired racers will go to adoption groups on the east coast.

For its almost 22 years in existence, GALT has operated as a 501 (c) 3 Corporation. The Irish retired racers’ adoption fee correlates to this policy.

This Hound’s adoption fee is: $750

Karl, aka Whiteys Dropzone, is a fawn male born on January 1, 2018. His sire is Ballymac Essie and his dam is Whiteys Jewel. Karl as 54 races to his credit on Greyhound Data. He’s one of our Irish hounds and is good with medium/larger dogs. He will be tested for cat tolerance soon.

Karl is a loving Irish boy who adores his humans. He really enjoys walks and toys. With toys he isn’t protective of them though he will steal one from his housemate who also isn’t protective. Karl is very food motivated so he can easily be distracted by a treat if necessary.

From what we’ve observed, Karl would make a good solo dog or live with others, either in a home or an apartment. He gets in the crate with a little coaxing and a good-boy treat. We are starting to pick up Karl’s signals when he needs to go out and that is improving every day. He is not super vocal unless…he sees a squirrel.

He really “likes” squirrels and cats, and not in a good way. Hold on to his leash if you see one on a walk. Needless to say, Karl should not live with cats and we’re  unsure at this time if he can live with small dogs; medium sized dogs may be okay with proper introductions.

Karl is excited to find his forever humans and to follow them around the house. This handsome and funny lad will make someone very happy!
