Additional Adoption Fee Information
GALT is charging an adoption fee of $750 for Australian retired racing greyhounds 7 years and younger and $650 for those 8 and over.
The Australian greyhounds arrive to us spayed or neutered with current rabies vaccinations. The transportation cost averages $1,620 per dog, and GALT spends another approximately $400 for CBC blood work with heartworm test, Protatek testing, dental and vaccinations required for this environment.
For its almost 22 years in existence, GALT has operated as a 501 (c) 3 Corporation. The Australian retired racers’ adoption fee correlates to this policy.

Rob, aka Blackjack Cougar, is a black male greyhound born February 11, 2019 and is from Australia. His sire is Barcia Bale and his dam is Trianna. Rob has 46 races to his credit on Greyhound Data. Rob should not live with cats.
Rob is a tall, dark, and dashingly handsome boy who loves being a pet. He looks forward to his meals being on time even though he’s a grazer who nibbles all day, most of the time. Rob also enjoys the comfort of his big, soft beds and his cozy crate. He rotates between them several times a day. As long as there is room for him to roach, he’s happy. He does get anxious when we go out, and when we crate him (rarely for more than two hours) he seems to settle down more quickly. However, we have left him alone, gated in the family room, and he’s not destructive. He is a ‘velcro’ hound who loves to be near his people so you can count on him to follow you around when you’re at home.
This boy LOVES his toys. He brought three with him when he came to stay with us and he loves them best. The giraffe is his favorite, then the monkey with the missing arm and the hedgehog comes in third. If you toss one of the toys across the room he’ll pounce on it in a split second, then wait for you to do it again. If the doorbell rings he jumps for joy and greets the visitor lavishly, without barking.
Rob looks forward to a good walk every day. He walks very well on the leash and minds his own business. He’s interested in watching the squirrels and has no desire to chase them. Thunderstorms and fireworks don’t faze him at all. He loves riding in the car and jumps right in. He doesn’t get on the furniture, and he loves to come up to you for a cuddle and get his ears and neck scratched. Belly rubs will get you extra points!
Like most greyhounds, Rob sleeps deeply for long hours every day and he sleeps with his eyes open. He is sensitive about his space when he’s sleeping and startles if you walk past him while he’s dreaming, and he might growl. It’s easy enough to cope with. We make sure he’s awake by clapping our hands and saying his name and his head will pop up. Rob seems to choose his special person in the family to bond with most closely and he’ll accept that person as the pack leader. That person seems to be the one who feeds and walks him.
Rob will need to learn his place is in the family ‘pack’. He can also be a resource guarder which means if he has something he shouldn’t, it’s best to trade him for a higher value treat than to demand that he drop it or try to take it out of his mouth. Due to his resource guarding, Rob should not live with children.
Rob previously lived with another male greyhound and did well, and he’s also been fine as an only dog. Because he loves walks and isn’t vocal, Rob may do well in an apartment with someone who is home most of the day.
