Rio
Rio is a stunning young greyhound mix that came to GALT NM under very special circumstances. We were contacted with an urgent request to save him from being euthanized within hours at an eastern New Mexico shelter. The GALT NM village mobilized and got someone local to pull him from the shelter and keep him overnight, beating the deadline; found a gracious volunteer to transport him to our operational area; and then secured a foster home to take him in. Rio is now ready to find his forever home. Rio’s physical long face made sense when his DNA testing showed he is 25% greyhound, but he doesn’t have a sad bone in his body as he has the happiest of dispositions!
Rio is a Velcro dog that is very curious about everything and will follow his foster Mom around the house. He’s small for a male at just 60 pounds (which is surprising as his DNA showed he’s mixed with Great Pyrenes and Weimaraner). Rio loves the outdoors and would make an excellent companion for someone who enjoys exploring the greyt outdoors with their hound or someone who lives in the countryside. Rio’s best forever home will have a secure yard, love to go on lots of walks, and give him lots of love and attention. Although he loves the great outdoors, Rio has excellent house manners and is fully housebroken and lives peacefully with two other greyhounds. Rio is food motivated so training using positive reinforcement methods should be a synch – especially because he could use more practice walking like a gentleman dog on leash. Look into this loving boy’s gorgeous tiger eyes and decide if you are the one to give him his happily ever after after his rough start in life.
