Pico

Pico is a lovely fawn male born August 18, 2021. His sire is Deco Glen Lee and his dam in Dancin Mavin. Though he was bred in Texas, we went to Tijuana to check out racing. Turned out that wasn’t his thing and he was adopted out by a group in California.

Pico lived with a family for several years and recently made his way back to North Texas. Due to a change in family dynamics, Pico is looking for a home without small children.

Meet Pico, who traded the track for the couch—and never looked back! Known around town as “Pico the Lean Machine,” this handsome retiree discovered early on that high-octane racing wasn’t for him. One look at the track was all he needed – while most Greyhounds live for the chase, Pico prefers to use his legendary charm as a spectator. Why run when you can be adored?

The Real-Life Hero

Don’t let his laid-back racing record fool you—Pico is a certified life-saver. With DEA 1 Positive blood, Pico served as a dedicated canine blood donor from December 2024 to June 2026, saving the lives of countless dogs in need. He truly turns his daily naps and endless affection into life-saving heroics!

Personality & Quirks

  • The Dramatic Dragon: Forget sleek, athletic strides; Pico’s true talent is dramatic napping (usually with his head dangling clear off his bed). His main hobby is pulling every single toy out of his toy bin, one by one, to hoard on his bed like a dragon guarding gold. At night, just reset the bin so he can joyfully pull them all out again the next morning!
  • The “Protest” Walker: Running with his humans? Hard pass. Pico has perfected the art of complete immobility when a pace gets too fast. However, he does love leisurely walks, outdoor hikes, sniffing around the backyard, and dipping his paws in the water at the beach.
  • Food & Manners: Pico is a gentleman with great manners—he knows how to sit and wait before eating and before stepping through doorways, and he takes treats with absolute gentleness. He eats from a slow-feeder (he can be a wonderfully sloppy eater and drinker!) and will do almost anything for a delicious snack.
  • Squeak Communication: When he wants attention or feels a tiny bit frustrated, Pico will happily squeak his favorite soft toys to let you know.

Home Environment & Compatibility

Pico has lived comfortably with a large Black Labrador, a tabby cat, and a Sphynx kitten, making him a great fit for a multi-pet household under the right setup:

  • Dogs: Enthusiastic YES! Pico thrives around other dogs and loves to run, play, and socialize with canine buddies.
  • Cats: Dog-Savvy Cats Only. He does well with confident, dog-savvy felines that give him his space, provided there is a slow, proper introduction.
  • Adults-YES, Kids-NO : Pico loves people, but due to his timid nature and past history, he experiences anxiety around infants, toddlers, and young children. He will do best in an adult-only home or one with teenagers/older kids.
  • Experience Level: Greyhound experience (or solid knowledge of the breed) is a huge plus to help Pico feel safe, understood, and comfortable.

Pico’s Ideal Forever Home

Pico is searching for a loving, cozy home—ideally with a fenced backyard where he can chase squirrels to his heart’s content, and preferably with another feline or dog companion to play with. If you’re looking for a gentle, lovable goofball who will lean in for snuggles and keep you entertained with his quirky dragon-hoarding ways, Pico is ready to be your ultimate best friend!
