Additional Adoption Fee Information for Maureen

GALT is charging an adoption fee of $750 for Irish retired racing greyhounds 7 years and younger and $650 for those 8 and over.

The Irish greyhounds arrive to us spayed or neutered with current rabies vaccinations. The transportation cost averages $1,620 per dog, and GALT spends another approximately $400 for CBC blood work with heartworm test, Protatek testing, dental and vaccinations required for this environment.

At this time, Ireland is the current source for retired racing greyhounds. Southland track in West Memphis, AR is ceasing racing December 31, 2022. After that time there will be only 2 tracks left in West Virginia. All of those retired racers will go to adoption groups on the east coast.

For its almost 22 years in existence, GALT has operated as a 501 (c) 3 Corporation. The Irish retired racers’ adoption fee correlates to this policy.

Maureen’s adoption fee is: $650

Maureen, aka Shes Our Maureen, is a 8 year old black female born on October 14, 2014. Her sire is Kinloch Brae and her dam is Seagrave Speck. Maureen has 50 races and 3 pups to her credit on Greyhound Data. She is one of our Irish hounds. Maureen is okay with children and large dogs. She should not live with cats.

Maureen is the Mona Lisa of the greyhound world.  She is an absolutely wonderful dog, but always has a solemn poker face.  Is she happy?  Is she sad?  What is she thinking about?  Is she trying to figure out what the heck we are saying with our funny American accents?  And why are those ears so adorably floppy?

Maureen had the luck of the Irish when she got the opportunity to move to the U.S. from Ireland recently.  We feel lucky as well as she has been one of our favorite fosters.  This girl has been a joy to have in our home – she is super well behaved and has no bad habits.

This former racer was a brood momma and like many broodies, she is quiet and reserved and tries very hard to please the people in the house. She is also sweet to the other dogs in the home.  We feel that she could do well in a home with other dogs or could do well as an only dog.

Maureen loves to go on excursions and walks like a dream on a leash – perfectly matching whatever speed or distance we would like to go.  She spends a lot of time hanging out and exploring outside on cool days – maybe it reminds her of the motherland?

Although Maureen is very quiet, she does like attention.  She will try to grab a dog bed that is close to traffic areas in our home so that we will frequently be forced to stop and “pay the toll” and give her pets.

Maureen caught on to the routine of our household and quickly became potty trained and learned to use our dog door.   She eats well and has fairly nice teeth for a greyhound.  She doesn’t seem to be bothered by loud noises and does well with thunder.  She has a high prey drive so may not do well with cats or small animals.

Maureen will be an extremely loyal companion to the family that is fortunate enough to adopt this sweet little four leaf clover!
