Mack
This cute young boy found his way to the Young Country animal shelter in Graham, TX. The shelter has his birth date listed as March 5, 2024. The shelter did a DNA test (attached) and he is a mixy mix of dogs including of Greyhound, Am Staf, Pit bull, and boxer. GALT stepped in once we procured a foster home where he can learn to be a good boy. He should not live with cats or small dogs.
Meet Mack, our very own mixy-mix puppy! According to his Wisdom Panel DNA, Mack is a combination of 9 different breeds, and he inherited traits from all of them!
The Sighthound Breeds (46%), made up of Greyhound, Borzoi and Polish Greyhound
The Guard Dog Breeds (39%), including American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier and Perro de Presa Canario
The (non-sight) Hound Breed/ Herding Breeds (15%), and a smattering of Boxer, Catahoula Leopard Dog and Australian Cattle Dog
Even though he’s over a year old, Mack is all puppy! He has learned some manners in his foster home. He has never had an accident in the house and learned the dog door by simply following his canine friends on his first day! No one was more surprised than Mack to find himself outside!
He knows where his food bowl is and does happy twirlies when he sees his meals on their way to his spot. He will sit on command and even if not commanded to sit, will do so if a treat is on its way. He learns quickly and is very motivated to please his people.
Mack and his 25 lb foster dog sister put on quite a show at least twice a day when they play tug of war, King of the Couch, and tag. He will play growl, bark and leap over obstacles while playing, to the delight of all. He enjoys grabbing the handle of his playmate’s halter to engage her in play, and once he has her attention, it’s all fun for both!
He is a joyful, happy boy who would do best in a home with a fenced yard and lots of chew toys to play with, and if you have kids, Mack would love to have them play with him too. He is rambunctious, so no little kids, please. He doesn’t yet know his strength.
Mack can be overwhelmed when new people and dogs come to visit, so a muzzle and slow introductions are needed. He wants to jump up to kiss people on the mouth, and can bowl over anyone not ready! This exuberant behavior will decrease eventually with training and maturity. He loves all dogs and all people equally when he meets them inside.
Mack does have an affinity for paper products, so you will quickly learn that tissues, toilet paper, paper towels and paper can be irresistible to him. At first Mack shredded every paper product he was able to get his mouth on and had to be muzzled when foster mom was out of the house. This habit has started to ease up, and lately Mack has been trusted without a muzzle when left alone in the house. He hasn’t shredded anything in weeks!
Mack will alert you of any dogs or people at the door or on the other side of the backyard fence; he does listen well to verbal commands to “hush” and will expect praise and pets for his superior protection skills. Please, NO apartment living for Mack!
Mack loves to roach and will sleep startle at times, and has never been aggressive in any way.
Now for his most interesting quirk: Mack does not appreciate any animals who suddenly appear on his TV. If you watch Animal Planet, Dr. Pol or even some Subaru commercials, he will tell off the interlopers as if they are right there in his territory. Walking Mack can be challenging so leash training for both of you is needed. He will need a strong grip on his leash when other dogs dare to be sharing his sidewalk. He isn’t wanting to give any of them trouble, he just wants to be sure they know he is the boss.
If you want a dog that will look at you with the most adoring, almost human eyes, will want to spoon with you in bed and cuddle with you on the couch, (he thinks he’s a lap dog), play with you and be your best friend and protector in a goofy, non threatening way – this is your boy. Mack will do best in a home with an active family, a yard and other dogs who want to play. He is too excitable to live with young kids or older adults. Also, Mack cannot live with cats. He deserves a long, happy, healthy life in a home that will love him for who he is, quirks and all!
