Goldie
When Montgomery County Animal Shelter in Conroe reached out about a potential greyhound mix, GALT stepped in for this special girl. Goldie, a sweet seven-year-old who recently became a tripod, hasn’t let that slow her gentle spirit.
DNA testing will confirm her greyhound heritage while she adjusts to life on three legs.
Currently in foster care, Goldie is learning to navigate her new reality with remarkable resilience. Her foster family provides the loving support she needs during this healing period, and each day she grows stronger.
Goldie is just the sweetest tri-pawd. When we initially saw pictures of her at the shelter in Montgomery County, we thought she may have some greyhound or whippet. She now holds the mantle of “honorary greyhound” based on her DNA. Tests show she is a pure mix – mostly Doberman and Boxer with a smattering of other breeds. Regardless, she is a happy girl.
From the moment she bounced in the house she became “Goldilocks”. She found some beds too hard, others too soft and the ottoman was just right – much to the chagrin of the resident “baby bear”. Missing her front left leg doesn’t keep her from hopping up to catch some z’s. If sleeping was an Olympic sport, she could get a gold medal.
While she can go anywhere in the house, Goldie spends all her time in the family room or doggy living room. The only time she ventured elsewhere was during a late-night thunderstorm when she came to the bedroom looking for comfort. She is terrified of storms and needed a lot of cuddling on the couch until the storm passed.
Her manners are impeccable and being short, she isn’t a counter surfing threat. However, mealtimes are THE BEST time of the day. She impatiently hops and waits for her bowl to be delivered. After eating, she does her business in the yard and when she hears “good girl”, she starts prancing and wants to play. Goldie play bows to her housemates and gets excited if they engage.
Goldie is very quiet, hasn’t shown any interest in toys and rarely barks. She was happy to see little dogs at the vet and we don’t see any concerns with her living with small dogs. On sunny days she loves to be outside and just hang out. When it’s time to go for a walk don’t be fooled by her 3 legs or small frame, she is much stronger than she looks. We have a van, and she can easily hop in and out without assistance.
Goldie is a sweet older girl with a wonderful disposition and a zest for life. She could live in an apartment without stairs and be just as content in a home with a yard – as long as she has a comfortable place to sleep and people to love.
