Gene, fka PJ Willy Wonka, is a white with blue brindle male born on May 10, 2018. His sire is KC and All and his dam is Boc’s Snow Angel. He ran just 4 races. It is not yet known if Gene is cat tolerant.
Gene is a striking white and brindle male who embodies the calm disposition typical of greyhounds, yet he also has moments of silliness that keep things lively. Known as a “velcro dog,” Gene loves to follow you around the house, reminding you just how affectionate this breed can be.
Based on his previous living situation, Gene isn’t a good fit for apartment living, as he thrives better in a home with space to roam and relax. Gene is fine with other dogs, though he needs some supervision during feeding time to prevent any resource-guarding issues.
During daily walks, he interacts well with small dogs without showing aggression. However, lots of neighborhood noises (lawn mowers, trash trucks…) are a little scary for him.
Interestingly, Gene might be okay with cats. He’s been known to approach the neighbor’s cat in their yard with curiosity, barking playfully yet remaining non-aggressive when she playfully bops him on the nose. He has not been officially cat-tested.
Gene loves his food and treats, often benefiting from a slow-feeder bowl. While he can be a bit of a counter-surfer, he usually listens when corrected. This is a work in progress!
One of Gene’s standout qualities is his calm demeanor at home. He’s 100% housebroken, doesn’t require crating, and has no destructive behaviors. He can comfortably be left home alone with another greyhound for a few hours, making him a low-maintenance companion.
Car rides can be a bit stressful for Gene, so it’s essential to ensure he feels secure. However, he thoroughly enjoys having human visitors at the house, showcasing his friendly personality and love for social interaction.
Gene exemplifies the lovable traits of greyhounds—gentle, playful, and affectionate. While he has some quirks, like resource-guarding and his counter-surfing, these are manageable with understanding and training. If you’re considering adopting a greyhound, remember that they can be wonderful companions, just like Gene!
