Bear

Bear is a striking big white boy with black ears and a kissy spot on his forehead. He is a strong alpha male and will do best as a single dog. Bear was born February 22, 2022, his sire is CTW Pipe Down and his dam is PJ Flying Away. He had 61 races in Wheeling, WV before retiring in April 2025 to find out what home life is all about. Bear should not live with cats or small animals.

Who wouldn’t love a big, goofy, teddy-Bear of a boy with the sweetest disposition and a ready-made kissy spot on top of his handsome head? Bear is a real character who discovered his love of toys after just a few days of being in our home. It’s a joy to watch him play. He loves to pounce on them, shake them hard, then do a thorough search until he finds their squeakers. He still seems surprised when he locates one and it squeaks for him. Bear has decided he prefers to sleep in his crate, despite having comfortable beds just outside of it. We leave the door open, so he can come and go as he pleases. Until recently, we shut the door on the crate when we went out, and he didn’t object. However, we’ve found that he doesn’t get into trouble when left alone and free to roam. He does not have separation anxiety issues, and he doesn’t react to loud noises like thunderstorms either.

This Bear (like his name) will eat almost anything. He loves his meals and relishes whatever we add to them. Recently, it’s been canned pumpkin, and he likes canned French-style green beans too. He’s a good eater and he’s very good about cleaning up any crumbs that may fall on the floor. He will counter surf if there is something good to eat up there, so we keep the counters free of food that might tempt him. Bear is still learning that our food is not his food and begging won’t get him anywhere. He enjoys ‘cookie time’ in the evening, before bed, and he goes to bed fairly early (around 8 pm). He almost always sleeps through the night until about 7 am.

Car rides are a real treat for Bear. He’s lazy, and he still needs help getting up into the car. He stands up and looks around for a while, then settles down and goes to sleep. He’s happy to jump out when the ride is over, with no assistance necessary. Bear loves his morning walks. He’s great on the leash and doesn’t pull. He does like to mark anything vertical he comes upon. Bear isn’t interested in other dogs or the bunnies and squirrels he encounters along the way. Bear has excellent house manners and is fully housebroken. He no longer needs the belly band we kept on him for the first few weeks to be sure he’d learned to ‘potty outside’ only.

Bear is a big, strong, handsome boy who attracts a lot of attention when he’s out and about. He’s a lovey-dovey hound who loves to cuddle. While he’s not allowed on the sofa or the beds here, he’s a lovey-dovey greyhound who’d love to cuddle with you. Bear’s trainers felt he would not like to share his family with other dogs so he can get all the attention, so he does not live with other animals. People who love a cuddle-bug should adopt this sweet boy!
