Alf
Additional Adoption Fee Information
GALT is charging an adoption fee of $750 for Australian retired racing greyhounds 7 years and younger and $650 for those 8 and over.
The Australian greyhounds arrive to us spayed or neutered with current rabies vaccinations. The transportation cost averages $1,620 per dog, and GALT spends another approximately $400 for CBC blood work with heartworm test, Protatek testing, dental and vaccinations required for this environment.
For its almost 22 years in existence, GALT has operated as a 501 (c) 3 Corporation. The Australian retired racers’ adoption fee correlates to this policy.

Alf, aka Country Code, is a black male born January 30, 2021. His sire is Barcia Bale and his dam is Two Jay. Alf ran 19 races before coming to GALT. Alf is cat tolerant.
Strike me roan, the flamin’ galah Alf aka “Country Code” is here! This laidback lad sure does meet the Code of the Country: quiet, peaceful, and sometimes a bit of a dag!
Very lovely and sensitive boy:
- Alf is a gentleman who is quite shy to start
- He will let strangers approach but just needs to be given a bit of time to feel comfortable (stranger danger after all!)
- Alf knows his name and reacts when you call it – if he doesn’t come he’s probably just got better things to do!
- Alf has conquered the all-terrifying stairs, well, at least he manages the 3 stairs into his Aussie home! So, there is potential for him to live in a house with stairs.
- Great with children: Alf regularly interacted with kids aged 2-15 years old.
- Alf is a very good boy in his kennel and even the trailer, so car trips should be a breeze and fun adventure for Alf and the fam!
- Alf is very well behaved when he meets some small dogs, including a Chihuahua Cross. He regularly interacts with other Greyhounds and got along well with a rather boisterous Boxer, however, didn’t like him up in his face (we all need our personal space sometimes!). Alf loves to interact with other dogs when in a yard. He does get a little shy when in an enclosed space, so would need slow, gradual introductions to any new dogs he may live with.
This sweet old soul will only be turning 4 in January! Could you throw a casual party for ol’ Alf with some tea and bickies?
