Additional Adoption Fee Information for This Hound
GALT is charging an adoption fee of $750 for Irish retired racing greyhounds 7 years and younger and $650 for those 8 and over.
The Irish greyhounds arrive to us spayed or neutered with current rabies vaccinations. The transportation cost averages $1,620 per dog, and GALT spends another approximately $400 for CBC blood work with heartworm test, Protatek testing, dental and vaccinations required for this environment.
At this time, Ireland is the current source for retired racing greyhounds. Southland track in West Memphis, AR is ceasing racing December 31, 2022. After that time there will be only 2 tracks left in West Virginia. All of those retired racers will go to adoption groups on the east coast.
For its almost 22 years in existence, GALT has operated as a 501 (c) 3 Corporation. The Irish retired racers’ adoption fee correlates to this policy.

Mitch, aka Ravenswood Mitch, is a black with white male born on February 13, 2019. His sire is Dorotas Wildcat and his dam is Ravenswood May. Mitch as 47 races to his credit on Greyhound Data. He’s one of our Irish hounds and is not good with cats or small dogs but is good with children and larger dogs.
Mitch has never met a stranger. He’s a boldy friendly boy who looks longingly into the eyes of passersby to ask for loving. He often receives it and has made numerous neighborhood fans in the short time he’s been with us. Our walks are frequently delayed by his admirers, and he’s been the catalyst to get to know a few new neighbors. He’s quick to break out a legendary greyhound lean and delight anyone who bends to pet him. If ever there was a dog who could give a hug, it’s Mitch! He is an excellent ambassador for the breed. Because of how much he loves attention, he would make a wonderful family pet with lots of space in his heart for each family member.
At home, Mitch prefers to stick close to his humans, and he’s done well hanging out alone with only his greyhound foster sister. He would likely do well as an only dog, too. He’s not a nervous or talkative guy, and he’s been perfectly mannered living in a lively apartment with lots of street noise. He’s not been allowed on furniture and has dutifully followed the rules, though we’re sure if allowed he’d also hop up on a couch for a cuddle in a heartbeat. He has the cutest habit of sleeping next to our bed and putting just the tiniest tip of his nose on the edge of the mattress, so you know he’s there if you happen to have a free hand. He would do well in whatever environment you put him in so long as he gets loved by his people. He walks beautifully on a leash and loves time outside. Inside, he enjoys putting his feet up in the classic roach style and squeaking his toys like a goofball.
Very few things bother Mitch, but any fluffy small thing tops the list. He was a successful racer, and his interest in chasing and possibly gobbling up small creatures tells you why. Mitch will need a home free of cats and small dogs.
