Luke
Luke is a handsome Saluki mix, originally found as a stray in Mansfield, TX; he is believed to have been born in 2017. Due to his owner’s health, Luke came back to GALT to find his new family.
Are you looking for a companion who already knows the rules of the house? Meet Luke, a stunning 8-year-old Greyhound/Saluki mix who is the definition of a gentleman. With his velvety folded ears and a “floof” that must be felt to be believed—especially that magnificent, plumed tail—he is as beautiful as he is well-behaved.
Indoors, Luke is perfect: he never counter-surfs, sleeps peacefully through the night, and is never destructive. His favorite activities include lounging on a plush dog bed, the sofa, or even snuggling in bed with his people. Luke is a social soul who truly thrives in the company of his own kind. He is a “rock star” on structured pack walks with fellow sighthounds, ranging from petite Whippets to a grand Deerhound. Because he looks to other hounds for confidence and companionship, Luke’s ideal forever home must include at least one medium-to-large sighthound sibling to show him the ropes. Luke lived for several years in an apartment and it suited him just fine as he loves his walks and he’s not very vocal.
While he’s a couch potato at heart, Luke is always ready for a car ride to a new destination! On the way, he might share a little “vocal excitement” before settling in for the ride. He is a polite walker with a harness. While he can be a bit picky about meeting non-sighthound breeds while on leash, he has been making excellent progress and is easily managed by a confident leader.
Every gentleman has his quirks, and Luke’s quirk is his fine dining style. He has officially retired from “free-feeding” and is successfully transitioning to scheduled meals. To feel his best, he prefers to dine on a plate (not a bowl!) in a quiet, safe spot away from any rowdy roommates.
Luke is a sophisticated and snuggly soul who truly lives for the moment. Whether he’s melting your heart with one of his signature play bows or curling up for a nap, he is a stunning companion for a home that understands the sensitive nature of sighthounds. Because he thrives on companionship and feels most secure with his pack, he is looking for a family where people are around often and where he has at least one medium-to-large sighthound sibling to lead the way. If you’re ready for a gentle, “floofy” gentleman to complete your pack, Luke is waiting to meet you; he is currently being fostered in New Mexico.
