Additional Adoption Fee Information

GALT is charging an adoption fee of $750 for Australian retired racing greyhounds 7 years and younger and $650 for those 8 and over.

The Australian greyhounds arrive to us spayed or neutered with current rabies vaccinations. The transportation cost averages $1,620 per dog, and GALT spends another approximately $400 for CBC blood work with heartworm test, Protatek testing, dental and vaccinations required for this environment.

For its almost 22 years in existence, GALT has operated as a 501 (c) 3 Corporation. The Australian retired racers’ adoption fee correlates to this policy.

This hound’s adoption fee is: $750

Dasher, aka Our Dasher, is a cute black and white male born April 19, 2019. His sire is Banjo Boy and his dam is Asia’s Babe. Dasher ran 60 races all over Australia before coming to the US. Dasher should not live with cats or small dogs, and may be best as an only dog.

Dasher is a striking black and white male from Australia! His Australian handlers mentioned that he is full of joy, especially for toys and food, and they were absolutely correct. His little hops and indoor gallops when he’s truly happy are a wonder to behold.

Dasher is probably best as an only dog in his forever home, because he is a bit possessive about his food and toys. This also means that small children should be monitored with Dasher, though he is very much a people person!

He does have a very high prey drive, so when walking him, a tight hold on the leash is recommended, as any squirrel or rabbit will gain his full attention. That being said, when he is on-leash, he is a very good walker and only pulls when he sees something small and furry.

Dasher is extremely smart and learns quickly. In his foster home, he has learned to jingle the “potty bells” on the patio door when he really needs to go out, learned that “crate” means go to the dog crate for a tasty treat, and is currently working on “sit”! Because he loves food and treats, he will take to training like a fish to water!

When he’s relaxing, he loves to roach and roll around on the dog beds or even the floor. He especially loves to go into the backyard and roll around in the grass, when it is sunny out.

Dasher is also extremely quiet, so he would probably make an excellent apartment dog. He does fairly well in a crate for a few hours (he hasn’t been tested for all day yet), if you need to go out for a bit. He just asks that you leave him some toys or challenges, like a few bits of kibble wrapped in a towel, to occupy himself, while you’re out.

Because he is new to this continent, EVERYTHING is new! He wants to see and smell everything! This also means he will attempt to examine whatever is on the table or counter tops. He does take verbal correction well, so you can prevent such mishaps from occurring. He also does very well in the car, even on longer rides. He is able to jump in the back of a SUV all on his own and wants to go on every car ride!

Dasher is thunder-shy, so a comforting blanket, a familiar toy, and a close-by human will help him get through some of the larger Texas storms. However, he does not appear to have any issues going outside in the rain for potty breaks.

He will definitely enrich his forever family’s lives with his boundless curiosity and happiness and is looking forward to meeting them soon!
