Additional Adoption Fee Information

GALT is charging an adoption fee of $750 for Australian retired racing greyhounds 7 years and younger and $650 for those 8 and over.

The Australian greyhounds arrive to us spayed or neutered with current rabies vaccinations. The transportation cost averages $1,620 per dog, and GALT spends another approximately $400 for CBC blood work with heartworm test, Protatek testing, dental and vaccinations required for this environment.

For its almost 22 years in existence, GALT has operated as a 501 (c) 3 Corporation. The Australian retired racers’ adoption fee correlates to this policy.

Ariel, aka Scooby Siren is a black and white female born December 2020. Her sire is Fernando Bale and her dam is Ring In. Ariel has 23 races to her credit. It is not known if she is cat or small animal tolerant at this time. Ariel is undergoing intake at this time.

Health note: Ariel’s blood work indicates that she is in the early stages of kidney disease. As such, she is on a prescription diet for kidney issues, which alone costs almost $100 for just under 20 pounds. She can have veggies and only low protein canned food or treats. It is imperative that Ariel remains on this for the remainder of her lifetime.

Ariel is what we call a pocket greyhound, and she would truly love nothing more than to be small enough to fit in your pocket and be carried close to your heart all day long. Ariel is black with a few white markings that make it look like she dipped her nose in a sugar bowl and dusted herself in the process. She is a small girl, probably 2/3 the size of your average greyhound, and what she lacks in size she makes up for in love.

Ariel has been a snuggler from the moment she entered the apartment. She scooted right up to me the moment I sat down. She loves to spend an afternoon with her head in my lap while I read or watch a movie. Occasionally, she even will scoot close enough to put her head on your shoulder. All it takes to get her tail wagging is a few words in a sweet voice. It is appropriate she is named after a princess though as she enjoys being cozy and likes to sneak up on the furniture…even when you’re sleeping. You might just find a tiny greyhound head laying on your feet when you wake up if Ariel is in your care.

Ariel currently lives in a lively neighborhood, and she is engaged with everyone she meets. She is friendly with strangers but not pushy, and she loves attention from kids in the park. She wags her tail sweetly at big and small dogs alike, yet in her mind, cats and squirrels deserve to be chased! She walks nicely on a leash, and she has never had an accident in the house while with us. Though she hangs out at home with her foster sister when we’re not home, she would do just fine as an only dog or with a buddy. She does seem more keyed into human attention though, and she would make a great companion during trips to backyard barbecues, the coffee shop or a brewery. Just be careful she doesn’t get treats from strangers as she is on a special diet to keep her kidneys healthy. She’s a good eater though and will come straight to you to say thank you after finishing her meals.

Ariel is a happy girl that just wants your company. She’s quiet, well-behaved, friendly, and confident, so she would fit in in almost any environment–apartment, house, single person, family, wherever! She just wants to be cuddled up next to you and accompany you on your adventures.
