The Australian greyhounds arrive to us spayed or neutered with current rabies vaccinations. The transportation cost averages $1,620 per dog, and GALT spends another approximately $400 for CBC blood work with heartworm test, Protatek testing, dental and vaccinations required for this environment.

For its almost 22 years in existence, GALT has operated as a 501 (c) 3 Corporation. The Australian retired racers’ adoption fee correlates to this policy.

Fern is a beautiful white with symmetrical blue markings, born November 25, 2021. Her sire is Zipping Garth and her dam is Sapphire Sandy. Fern ran 43 races at various tracks in Australia before fracturing bones in her paw in May 2024 – she is now healed and looking for her forever home. She should not live with cats or small dogs.

Fern is a beautiful girl who likes to look at herself in the mirror, literally. She has an abundance of energy so having a family who will take her to long walks and a backyard of her own to enjoy the sun and zoomies would be ideal. She is still a greyhound so after a walk she likes to roach in her favorite dog bed and has nice house manners. She doesn’t jump on people or on counters, though I wouldn’t leave a sandwich at the edge of the countertop to test this ?. She loves to be close to her people and will never leave you unattended, it’s a free service she likes to provide. She’s really good at entertaining herself with toys and loves any that make a sound, so if you don’t like walking in the rain (she doesn’t mind) a play session with toys is always welcome!

She is quite a hunter and thinks some small dogs are game as well so she would prefer bigger furry friends in the house. Fern gets along well with other big dogs and is independent enough that she doesn’t require canine companions. Currently she’s living with a male greyhound and a female pitbull mix. She’s good with routines and her new favorite is running inside from the muddy backyard and stopping on a large towel at the door to get her paws cleaned, she knows it’s a treat time after that! She hasn’t shown any food or toy aggression, and all the 3 dogs eat side by side and she has a good appetite and is not a picky eater.

She really enjoys spending time outside whether it’s walking or hanging out in the backyard. Not even rain will stop her from going outside if there’s even a slight chance there’s a squirrel on the fence! She doesn’t bark at dogs walking by the house but will give a very high pitched bark to a squirrel sometimes if they won’t come play with her. Overall she’s a great companion and fun to be with, just be warned – she’s a knockout and you’ll be showered with compliments of her beauty when walking with her!!
