Jack

Jack is a handsome retired racer from Australia. We weathered the long journey to Texas with the sudden change in season, strange new housemates of all sizes, and weird Texas accents! Since his arrival he’s blossomed into a cheerful, happy boy. Jack has gorgeous carnelian-colored eyes and a dusting of powdered sugar on his face. He has white toes and a slim, athletic build. He’s quite charming, leaning sweetly to get attention, and loves having his head held. He accepts kisses and hugs, too.

His hobbies include tossing and collecting toys, supervising everything that goes on in the kitchen, exploring enrichment toys, snuggling on the couch, chasing squirrels and birds, meeting new people, and yard patrol with the rest of the pack.

Due to the pack dynamics at feeding time, Jack is crated for meals. He’s so well behaved that I don’t crate him any other time. He sleeps through the night on a dog bed in my room or on the living room couch. He eats eagerly and is not fussy about food. He gets along with everyone in the pack including a 75-lb retired coyote hunter and a sassy 10-lb. chihuahua mix. He only objects to being herded by the chubby Australian shepherd and keeps his distance most of the time.

Jack’s ideal forever family is one where his humans are home most of the day, or willing to take him along with them. He needs at least one other greyhound to feel his most confident. He’s good with small dogs, though apparently not good with tortoises (aka moving rocks)! He hasn’t been around small children, though 12-year-olds and older, who have dog experience and are respectful would probably be fine with him. Jack would like to have a space outside to run, and the size of the large yard isn’t important. He does bark when stimulated by wildlife, yet overall, he’s quiet.
