GALTX

Volunteer Sunday

July 25, 2004

Sunday, July 25, 2004, was GALT's second Volunteer Sunday at Houn' House Dog Training Building, and we welcomed a multitude of new and old volunteers. There were approximately 10 new volunteers, along with about 20+ seasoned ones, who "learned the GALT ropes", washed the foster greys, pretty much giving them a Spa day, cleaned the Houn' House beds, organized the HH supplies, and helped with the administrative chores.

But the "piece de resistance" was Mary Waugh Swindell. As most of you know Mary is an extraordinary obedience trainer (she teaches the GALT greyhound-only obedience classes) and is a GALT Advisory Director. In addition, Mary is invaluable to GALT as a "problem solver." Some of you may have consulted with Mary about greyhound behavior problems, adjustment issues, and separation anxiety issues. Mary talked for an hour and one half about "crating your greyhound" - it was a wealth of entertainment and learning as the advantages of crating were presented. Mary accomplished getting Floyd (who hated crates) to go into a crate with no problem…a true feat for all observers!

IR, a 24" tall oxidized metal-look sitting greyhound statue with a crack in his neck, was raffled off, bringing in $105 to help with Spiderman and Gabe's surgeries. The winner was Ingrid Kjelstrup!

Come on out and join us the 4th Sunday of each month – it is a lot of fun, camaraderie, and good greyhound talk, along with snacks to please everyone!
