Vern, aka Wistex Vern, is a handsome, 3-year-old red fawn male born November 8, 2005. His sire is Dodgem By Design, making his grand sire the famous Gable Dodge, and his dam is Brown Spider. Vern started racing May 31, 2007, at Bluffs Run in Iowa, moving to Valley Race Park in Harlingen, TX on January 31, 2008, then on to Dubuque, Iowa on April 26, 2008, and finishing his career at Valley Race Park in December 2008 with a cracked right hock. Vern was evaluated by Dr. Jeff Ellis of VCA Preston Park Animal Hospital. His cracked hock is healed, but he still has a fractured toe on his right rear leg. He is being leash walked for several weeks to allow his toe to heal.
Happy Vern with the cats: Vern is a happy dog who was a bit interested when first introduced to the cats. But Molly put him in his place with a hiss and a growl. After that he could not be convinced to get too close to the cats again. I would say that Vern is cat trainable, but remember to always use precaution and a muzzle when introducing him to new cats. We will see how he does with small dogs later.
