Sawyer is a 2-year-old handsome, very skinny, red brindle male born September 1, 2002. His sire is Animal Magnitude and his dam is Sonatina. Sawyer came to GALT with the whitest gums ever seen. He immediately went to Preston Park Animal Hospital where Dr. Amanda Florsheim examined him. His platelet count was 15, which was caused by an extremely severe case of hookworm anemia. After spending 4 days thinking he would have to have a transfusion any time and lots of medications, his platelets finally have risen to 20. He is in the care of a very loving and caring foster home, where he is receiving daily meds and lots of rest to build him up.
Sawyer's racing weight shows to be 78 pounds, and he is lucky to be 55 at the most now. He has quite a ways to go to get healthy. Sawyer shows on Greyhound-Data.org to have started racing June 24, 2004 at Gulf Greyhound Park in La Marque, TX, and ended September 19, 2004 in Corpus Christi. It is not known at this time if Sawyer is small animal or cat tolerant. He gets along very well with the other large dogs in his foster home.
