Savanna, aka Idling Slats, is a 4½-year-old black female born April 14, 2009. Her dam is Gramauldi and her sire is Gable Oscar, making her half-sibling to Jaycee. Savanna has 107 races to her credit on Greyhound-data.com, all at Gulf Greyhound Park. She started on November 13, 2010 and finished on September 1, 2012. Savanna's career ended with a broken right hock. Her fracture was repaired by Dr. Bob Radasch of the Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center on September 11, 2012. It was a very severe injury and technically challenging to repair - a Grade V central tarsal bone fracture, with a compression fracture of the 4th tarsal bone and a comminuted basilar fracture involving the calcaneous. Savanna spent 10 weeks in a splint with frequent bandage changes. Dr. Radasch was hopeful that Savanna's leg would recover enough to become weight-bearing again and it has, however, due to the severity of the injury she will likely always have a bit of a limp. The screws in Savanna's previously broken leg had to be removed on January 17 due to irritation. It is possible that the plate will have to come out at a later timer if irritation develops. But none of this is slowing down feisty little Savanna! Savanna was in a home for 9 months, but has returned to GALT to find a better forever home match.
Savanna quickly showed a great deal of interest in chasing cats - no living with cats for Savanna.
