Rufus, aka Par Rufus, is a handsome 4½-year-old brindle male born March 18, 2005. His sire is Dominator and his dam is Lone Star Linda, making his grand-sire the late famous Gable Dodge. Rufus has 78 races to his credit, all at the Corpus Christi track, starting November 16, 2006, and ending there on December 15, 2007. Rufus was then adopted, but it was not to be his “forever home.” Rufus was surrendered to GALT through no fault of his own. It is not known at this time if Rufus is small animal or cat tolerant, but he gets along well with other greyhounds.
Rufus is a handsome brindle with an incredibly soft coat. He is often mistaken for a tiger as he strolls through the house! Be careful when you meet him, as he will steal your heart after just one look at those big, toffee eyes. Rufus is not a kisser, but he is very loving and, like a cat, will rub his snout and head against you when he wants some attention. He will almost never let you out of his sight and is always just an arm's length away, ready for some loving. Rufus loves his bed, especially when it's in a corner where he can lay upside down with his feet against the wall.
Rufus is very good about riding in the car. He will hang his head out in the breeze for a bit, but then just settles down to enjoy the ride. He is very smart and mastered the stairs in my 2-story house in record time.
This quiet, calm boy is very comfortable in his kennel and usually stays crated or when I have to leave him for extended periods of time. Since I do not have a doggie door, it is best to keep him on a regular house-training schedule with frequent walks. Rufus handles well on a leash and often exhibits that classic Greyhound "lean."
Rufus has excellent house manners and has never exhibited any destructive behavior. He doesn't jump up on the furniture or get into anything that he shouldn’t. I’ve never heard Rufus growl or bark during his stay in my home.
If you are looking for a gentle boy who will put you on a pedestal for life, then Rufus is your guy!
