Oscar is an approximately 3 year old black male greyhound found as a stray in the northwestern part of Tarrant County. GALT received information on August 4, 2018, that he had been spotted. As it turns out, Oscar has been a stray for about 1 ½ years in a specific area around Lake Worth. A wonderful lady, Peggy, had been caring for him daily all this time, and actually named him “Oscar” after her grandfather. She and Oscar had developed quite a relationship but he would never get close enough to be captured. It took 2 weeks of GALT trying and then finally realizing that we need professional help. Cindy Gordon of Lost Pet Search and Rescue was called to assist with Oscar. Cindy assessed the situation and determined her strategy, and the day she implemented it, which was 2 weeks to the day, on August 19, Oscar was trapped. He was immediately transferred by GALT volunteers to VCA Preston Park Animal Hospital to be examined by GALT’s vets. As expected Oscar is thin, heartworm positive, full of various parasites, and has a positive titer to Ehrlichia Canis. His treatment has started now that he is in a foster home. Oscar appears to be cat tolerant at this time.
UPDATE 3/14/2019
Oscar is now heartworm free!
