Darla Darla

Darla, aka SAS Dare Darla, is a dark brindle, 2-year-old female born May 9, 2007. Her sire is Stan’s Boy Flyer, making her grand-sire Gable Dodge, and her dam is SAS Magic Jewel. Darla’s racing career of 15 races started December 6, 2008, at Valley Race Park in Harlingen, TX, and ended on February 15, 2009. It was thought that Darla had a fractured right metatarsal and metacarpal, but x-rays taken by Dr. Jeff Ellis and Dr. Christy Soileau of VCA Preston Park Animal Hospital did not reveal any injuries.

Darla is not cat trainable. She was intensely focused on the cat when they met. Domino voiced his disapproval, too. She had no problem with the three Greyhounds of the house being so eager to meet her and enjoyed their company in the back yard. We will test her with small dogs at a later time.

Darla

This sweet girl is only two years old, and you can still see the puppy in her! When her tail starts wagging and her goofy grin gets bigger, you know it must be time for a trip around the neighborhood. Darla enjoys her morning stroll, but she is really happy when we can take a longer walk when it cools off in the evening. She is always ready for an adventure outdoors on the leash, because there are always new and exciting things to see and smell. Don’t let Darla’s “puppy energy” fool you, though; she sleeps like a log when the leash comes off!

My sociable girl gets so excited when meeting new people, she nearly goes airborne jumping off the ground. She is slowly learning that not everyone enjoys this exuberant greeting, and we are working together on a gentler “hello” for those folks. Darla loves to chew on tasty treats and rawhide bones. She is a fast learner who Darla quickly became comfortable in her new domestic life in an apartment. So far, she’s been an only dog (with an “only owner.”) However, given Darla’s cheerful, outgoing personality, I expect that she would adapt to almost any situation with other dogs and humans.

No housetraining problems with this gal, but keep her away from cats! She’s a “real dog” who knows that she was born to chase those furry creatures. Darla has no problem staying/sleeping in the crate when necessary, but her favorite place to sleep is right by my bed. Who knows? Maybe she’ll be even happier by YOUR bed? Won’t you give her a chance to shower her love on YOU?
