Cactus, aka Slatex Cactus, is a 3 year old red fawn female born July 20, 2014. Her sire is BD's Grayson, and her dam is Slatex Cindel. Cactus has 93 races to her credit on Greyhound-Data starting at Gulf Greyhound Park in La Marque, TX, moving to Sanford-Orlando, FL, with her last completed race occurring on June 16, 2017. Cactus was brought to Dallas by West Texas Representative Lonnie Jones on Friday, September 15, 2017 from Florida. She was very sick with a high fever and had difficulty breathing. After preliminary evaluation by Dr. Jeff Ellis of VCA Preston Park Animal Hospital, Cactus was transferred to an emergency clinic on Saturday, September 16 with severe lung congestion requiring inter-nasal oxygen administration. She also received one unit of plasma. Her current condition is very guarded.
Sadly, Cactus lost her fight today. We did everything we could to find a solution for her medical problems and will continue to work with her vets to determine what happened. The vet bills of course remain and are approaching 9K. Please help us stay ready to help the next hound that comes to us needing medical care by making a donation to our Miss Mesa Fund. Our hearts are broken. Thank you to all who donated to help this precious girl.
The special medical treatment cost needed by Cactus is why the Miss Mesa Fund was established. If you would like to help with Cactus's care, please take a moment to make a donation to the fund. You WILL and CAN make a difference in Cactus's life and the lives of other greyhounds in need of special medical care. Your help and support will make a difference - one greyhound at a time.
