Asta is a 3 1/2 year old red female born in January 2015. She was part of the population from the blood bank facility located in Cherokee, TX that closed in November 2017. Asta has completed her medical evaluation by GALT's veterinarians and all her medical procedures. This beautiful girl is ready to find her forever home. Asta should not live with cats at this time. Please check back periodically for updates on Asta as she starts her journey to her forever home.
With her stunning Kim Kardashian eye-liner, Asta is a good-natured, tan female. She enjoys both human and dog companions, patiently tolerating canine shenanigans and regularly zooming with the other houndies. She is submissive and will readily pause for a good back and belly rub. In fact, if Asta was a country, she would be Switzerland … she always calms the situation down.
You'd never know that she hasn't spent her whole life living in a house. Her potty training is perfect, she doesn't chew things, no counter surfing, and is generally quiet and well mannered. Her greetings when I come home are a bit over the top, but that's sort of charming. Asta loves her foster siblings, and people of all sizes. She's met small dogs without incident, and she's been introduced to children as young as 5 and really likes them; however she is not cat safe. Her favorite thing is going to Starbucks, where everybody stops to pet her. Asta walks well on a leash, and wants to stop to greet everyone she sees. She lets me brush her teeth, though nails are a bit of a struggle. Asta has also learned to get in the car. She loves her crate, and often goes in there on her own to sleep.
The only caution is that Asta seems sensitive to loud noises like thunder storms or the 4th of July. The ideal home for Asta will have plenty of people to adore, someone to take on long walks, a backyard for lounging around and perhaps a canine brother or sister to share long naps. She could honestly go into any situation with a little time to adjust. If you want a trouble free dog, Asta is your girl.
