Apple, aka Ash's Appleofmyi, is a 3 year old red brindle female born August 16, 2017. Her sire is Djay's Octane, and her dam is Cry Ash. Apple has 43 races to her credit, but on the last one she suffered a career ending injury on October 15. GALT is very thankful that Apple was flown to Dallas by Pilots N Paws. She was operated on at Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center and her leg is now healed. Apple should not live with cats.
What a gorgeously stunning girl, Apple is. She is loving, active, a girl who loves to be close to you and to take long walks. While we haven't permitted her to run zoomies while recovering from a broken leg, she has run across the yard after squirrels. She'll happily stay outdoors hunting squirrels until she decides to come in. She is one of those girls who enjoys the thrill of going in and out as many times as she can. Apple does not bark, though she does make herself known by whines, both small and quiet and sometimes louder. If she wants to come back in and you're not visible, she'll whine loudly enough to remind you of her needs.
Apple is an eager eater. Apart from her willingness to eat anything, including sometimes things you'd rather she not gnaw on, she's learning to show self-control and restraint with a truly good "wait" response. She waits for her meals to be set down and then waits for permission to eat. In her eagerness to eat, she sometimes eats too quickly, thus there is a large rock in her dish--she'd probably do well with a slow feeder or several small bowls too. She also waits for treats and waits to go through a door. She's most responsive to a hand signal. She also waits at street corners. Because she is eager and impulsive, this is truly an impressive response.
Apple is eager to please and very responsive about coming when called. Apple is happiest when getting a belly rub She LOVES them! In the history of greyhounds, there might never have been a girl who loved tummy rubs more. Apple has no trouble taking medication or getting a nail trim. Because of her broken leg, carpet runners are recommended in a home with slick floors.
While she does well with her greyhound housemates, Apple's prey drive suggests should not live with small dogs or cats. Watching Apple learn to be a well-behaved member of the pack has been a real pleasure. She's so smart, fun and so eager to please. What a lovely soul inside such a beautiful exterior.
