Tick-Borne Disease Hearing

GALT was asked by the Texas Greyhound Association (TGA) to submit an evaluation of our ProtaTek tick testing to be used as documentation for the public hearing held (details below) by the Texas Agriculture and Livestock Committee (TXALC). Because it is standard practice for all greyhounds entering into GALT’s family to be tested for Ehrlichia canis, Babesia canis, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, and Lyme disease, GALT’s records are extensive and precise for these tick borne diseases. Tick infestation in the state of Texas is rampant and widespread. GALT appreciates this interest and is proud to be able to provide the statistics regarding GALT’s greyhounds to the TXALC.

The House Committee on Agriculture and Livestock will hold a hearing to hear invited and public testimony on the following interim charge:

• Evaluate the impact of tick-borne diseases in domestic and exotic livestock and of plant diseases and pests on the Texas agriculture industry.
• Examine barriers limiting the state's response and identify resources to enhance the state's ability to control, prevent, and respond to disease vectors.

The hearing will be conducted in the City Council Chambers, Suite 204, Alice City Hall, 500 E. Main Street.
