Juvenile Diabetes Walk

October 2, 2004

The Greyhound Adoption League of Texas (GALT) joined the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) this year to participate in a 5K walk on Saturday, October 2, 2004, at Granite Park in Plano, Texas, to support finding a cure for Juvenile Diabetes.

GALT helped raise money for a cure for this disease by sponsoring two children and including over 12 greyhounds in the walk. Over $505,000 was raised for this event alone, which is a 40% increase over last year. 85% of the raised funds will go to research to find a cure for Diabetes I.

This was a wonderful opportunity to show GALT's support within the local community for this important cause. The two special children GALT sponsored this year were Elliott Fry and Brandon Kofahl, who are friends of GALT members.

A prize (a free night's stay at the Embassy Suites hotel) was awarded to the GALT member who collected the largest amount of contributions. The winner was Joann Young, GALT's own Foster Coordinator! Special thanks to Pam Hart, GALT foster and volunteer, who was responsible for donating the prize.

GALT also attended the JDRF awards dinner in late November to honor the teams that raised a large portion of the funds to go to research. Intuit, an international company with a local presence here in Dallas and Fort Worth, was the largest corporate sponsor.

All who participated during the event walk and the awards dinner had a fun time. GALT is excited to be a part of important charitable causes in the local community of Dallas and Fort Worth and will continue to participate to support its community through these activities.
