Beamer, aka EZ Moon Beam, was a handsome 2-year-old red fawn male, born October 18, 2003. His sire was WW Time Warp and his dam was Mohican Blair. Beamer's life was about to begin after his 6 races at Dairyland in August and September of 2005. He came into GALT's family on December 21 from a local shelter where he had been relinquished with 3 other greyhounds. As is the shelters custom, he was neutered prior to GALT's picking him up. Unfortunately within just a few days, it was apparent Beamer suffered from a respiratory infection, which did not respond to antibiotics at all.
Beamer was taken to the Emergency Animal Clinic of Collin County, and then transferred to the Dallas Diagnostic Center. The results of tests revealed he suffered from Blastomycosis, from an acute fungal infection of his lungs. After consulting with four veterinarians, it was determined that Beamer was too weak to fight this disease. He was released to the Rainbow Bridge on Thursday, December 29, 2005, at 11:15 am. Beamer never had a chance to find his forever home, but he was in a foster home for a week.
It was my family's privilege to take care of Beamer for his short life as a GALT greyhound. I fell in love with that skinny boy immediately just talking to him made his tail wag! He had a very special way of greeting you when he was standing up. Beamer would smile, showing his teeth and bob his head, then lay his head against your side. He was such a sweet boy!
Beamer would have been such an awesome buddy for his forever home family. He was very special and touched our hearts deeply in barely the week he was in our home. I am thankful for the privilege to have fostered him and to have been able to give him care and lots of love and affection in his last days. He will always have a special place in my heart.
In Beamer's memory, give your greyhounds a hug and let them know how special they are.
