Obedience Training for Greyhounds Only!
"EVERYTHING YOU DO IS TRAINING"

New adopters, old adopters, learn to teach your grey basic manners like not to jump, how to lay down on command and the dreaded SIT! Your hound can learn how to be a great PR rep by showing their skills at meet 'n greets and public events. Encourage adoption and responsible ownership with your very own public relations committee!

DogSkills 101 (beginner) and 102 (intermediate) classes are held at Woof Gang Doggy Day Care. Classes are one hour in length and will be limited to 8-10 greyhounds. The fee is $85 for the six-week course. Click here to sign up and pay by check, PayPal or by MasterCard, Visa or American Express on GALT's secure server. Space will not be held until payment is received. A questionnaire will be sent upon payment for submission at the first class.

DogSkills 101
This six-week course is designed to teach owners to think like their greyhounds so that they can accurately communicate desirable behaviors, and learn to redirect inappropriate ones. Teaching good manners and polite social skills help your greyhound understand their place in your home and enables them to better fulfill your expectations of a "good dog."

Each week you and your family will receive nightly homework exercises. All members of the family are encouraged to practice these exercises with their greyhounds. We will talk about the importance of rewarding attention, how to motivate greyhounds, and how to use their natural motivation to reinforce behaviors that you find desirable. The vocabulary we will build will include "down, stay, wait, come, off, no and wrong."

With this class we hope to open the door to a rewarding relationship between you and your greyhound.

DogSkills 102 "Building on a foundation"
This class is specially designed for our Greyhounds who have participated in our 101 class, and have been introduced to sit, down and stay. We will work on increasing our stay command, proficiency in sit and down and prepare the dogs for the exercises required in the Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dog International certifications. We will also cover nail trimming and teaching owners how to use a Dremel tool to grind nails without hitting the quick! A must for hounds with black toenails! Learn to trim nails without stressing yourself and your dog!

ABOUT THE TRAINER
Dogskills 101 and 102 is taught by Mary Waugh. Mary's first experience with training dogs began when she was six years old and discovered that her parent's black lab would jump over cardboard "walls" for a cookie. Today she would tell you that nothing much has changed. Training is about finding incentives and using them. The incentives and the exercises vary, but developing a rapport and having fun are what it's all about.

Mary and Devon

Recently Mary spent six years in Pittsburgh, PA as the Senior Trainer at Misty Pines Dog Park Company while working on her Ph.D. coursework at Duquesne University. At Misty Pines, Mary taught Freestyle, Obedience and Agility classes, performed behavioral consultations, and gave public education seminars. She worked with many shelter and rescue organizations in Pittsburgh and now in the Dallas area.

Mary's personal dogs have been active Therapy Dogs, are titled in obedience and agility, and are well known in the sport of Canine Freestyle. Mary and her Doberman Pinscher, Devon, have been featured on Animal Planet's "Breed All About It," have been interviewed by DOGFANCY and Doberman Quarterly, and have given seminars at the local and national level.

Mary and Devon

Mary's dogs include Gwen, a 12-year-old rescue English Shepherd from the former Collin County Humane Society; Devon, her 5-year-old "Dancing Doberman"; Cassanova, an 8-month-old future Doberman agility star; and Rose, a 2-year-old rescue Staffordshire Bull Terrier--the resident juvenile delinquent.
